Lately, many of us may have been hearing this term more often as around the world a lot more emphasis has been given to the importance of it. Let's start by explaining what STEM actually means. Sometimes also referred to as STEAM education, it stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths

In today's fast-paced digital world, STEM education is in very high demand in the labour market and any child that grows with a significant interest in this field is sure to do well later on in their career, be it as a software developer, engineer, scientist, physicist or various other roles.

What are the benefits of S.T.E.M. education?

10 benefits of S.T.E.M. education include:
  • Boosts curiosity & creativity
  • Teaches problem-solving skills
  • Encourages knowledge application
  • Encourages teamwork
  • Develops communication skills

and so much more!

What's the best age to start?

It's never too early to get kids interested in S.T.E.M. educational toys. From as young as 6 months of age you can give kids toys that make them improve their cognitive skills, problem solving skills, spatial awareness, etc. A perfect example is the Smarty Cube from Fat Brain Toys.

As they move on to the toddler years (3-5years) they have more imagination and creativity flowing in their brains, so help to boost this by offering toys such as our Squigz or Makedo Tool Kits for a fun introduction to engineering and architecture through cardboard construction.

Growing up and heading into the tweens age (6-12 years) - which tends to be an age with not much choice when it comes to gifts - our Smartivity range are fantastic. These kits are specifically designed to make science fun for kids and help children learn in an exciting environment, and come at a great price too!
Once you get to the teenage years, your child should be confident to know if they are interested in S.T.E.M. education and start focusing on their studies by choosing the right school subjects to eventually build a brilliant career which will set them for life.
